Things have been very busy these last few weeks! About a month and a half ago we started going to a new church. The second week that we were there, the Pastor walked up to us, and spoke to us for a little while. Mamma had told him about how I have wanted to go on the mission field from the time I was young. He told her that the church has a women's grace house in Guwahati, Assam, India, and they needed help, so he gave me the email address of the man in charge. I emailed him and he said that we could meet up that next Sunday and talk about things to see if I would be of use, and if they would feel comfortable with me going.
After our conversation we found that they need English teachers, and they have been praying for someone to come and teach the girls how to sew, cook, garden, and do all sorts of other craft things. In India, people don't go to the store and buy a pre made shirt. You go to the store, get material, and then take it to a tailor, so if the girls know how to sew, it would give them a job opportunity in the future. When we spoke with them we decided to think about it and pray about it and meet up again the following week. We knew that we were leaving that Thursday to go to a fellowship conference and we also knew that several of the people that had been to India were going to be there. We all agreed that sitting down and having a conversation with the girls there would be a good idea.
We greatly enjoyed the conference, and the conversation was a great blessing! We were able to settle several doubts and had many of our questions answered. After much prayer and conversation we decided that we would go ahead and plan on going, and if the Lord closed the door then we would understand that it is not His will. We spoke with the people in charge of the grace house and we all said that maybe we would leave end of May to middle of June. About a week later we had our pastor and his family, and the people in charge of the grace house over for dinner and we were able to talk about India, the approximate leave date was moved up to middle to end of May. Then Monday, Pastor got a call from the W_'s ( the family in India) and they told him that they need help over there now. We are now at the point where we will be leaving as soon as we get our paperwork in.
I forgot to mention that D_ is going to be coming too! I am so excited that we will be there together! I am sure that it will be so nice to have her with me, someone that I can talk to and confide in, and someone who understands exactly what is going through my head.
I will do my best to keep this blog up to date with what is going on both before and after we get to India. If you have any questions please send me an email and I would love to talk to you.

Oh my goodness! So soon! I had a thought lately that maybe I should try to fly down and visit for a little bit before you fly away....But it is all happening sooo fast!
ReplyDeleteAre these orphaned girls? You and D. should excel at this work. I'm proud of your courage and faith. <3 you...Grammy
Maybe you can come visit after we get back, then we can tell you all about it, and show you pictures!
ReplyDeleteNot all are orphaned, several do have family, but if they go home they are put in a very bad place so they stay at the grace house.
